History

Insangel is the longest running and premier local, breakthrough, small venue and music promoter in the north east.

Initially starting with the help of various authorities such as The Princes Trust, Social Enterprise Sunderland, The E-Business Foundation and Sunderland Youth Enterprise Trust, also not forgetting the musicians and various people within the industry. Insangel managed to secure various venues to promote the live music scene, that was lacking severely at the time of it's conception, now a healthy part of the newcastle nightlife.

Insangel didn't and still don't just use the typical venues which bands can easily arrange and play themselves, without a middleman. Insangel's sole aim is to endeavor to platform some of the best 'new and original' music in and around the North East as much as possible in new and varied venues appropriate to the bands involved.

Insangel introduced new venues such as The Archer in Jesmond, (which unfortunately is no longer and very sadly missed by all) The Black Bull in Sunderland, The Telegraph in Newcastle as well as Insangel's official new home at The Red Rooms, which is now a full time venue. Insangel are now doing more and more to support the 500 north-east bands that are registered on this very site.

In the past Phil Hughes (Founder of Insangel13) has been involved with various different music based promotions companies in and around the North, all of which crumbled into obscurity within a short period of time. So within his 10th year of music promotion and the fourth year solely running as insangel, it's no wonder that other north-east band promoters use the contacts and the knowledge insangel has to help develop the strong scene the north-east now has.

Insangel also needs as much help from bands, reviewers, photographers, sound technicians and venues as possible so if you care to have a look through the site to see what is going on, and maybe you can offer some assistance then please drop me an email about anything you like.

Insangel is very approachable and 'all' music styles are considered, we're not just for the 'cool' kids, however we like them as well! Insangel is not a typical 'clique' that north has been know to be, we're very developmental to up and coming bands of all styles, whether it's you're thing or not, all unsigned bands are in the same boat, so being supportive is the key!

The reason behind sending a demo is to give a better idea of where the band is at and therefore deciding where to play and who to play with, there's nothing worse than a line up of uncomplimentary bands from promoters who don't do there research before promoting a gig, it's in everyone's best interest (bands, promoter and venue) that it's done this way.
